YOUTH ACADEMY MEMBERS CLUB

The Camel Ski Youth Academy is our membership club for aspiring young local waterskiers or wakeboarders who want to progress in the sport, but also have an interest in gaining general boating and water sports skills – maybe with an idea of becoming our next generation of Camel Ski coaches or one day working within the Marine industry.

A little bit about the Camel Ski Youth Academy Members Club

The Youth Academy is divided into two terms this year; Spring/Summer and Autumn 2025. We run it on two weekday evenings - Mondays and Wednesdays - from 5.30pm to 7pm. Mondays is for those new to the Club and Wednesdays is for past members. The sessions will either be on the water or on the land, depending on the tides. We hope to get you out on the water as much as possible. During the water sessions you will have the opportunity to develop your ski/wakeboard skills. Our qualified instructors will use use the ‘Camel Ski Way’ Booklet to track your progress. We will also be scheduling a session on our Axis T220 boat towards the end of the term so members can have a go at Wake Surfing too.

With the land lessons we will cover such areas as skiing/boarding technique with video analysis, general boat skills, understanding tides, wind and weather, first aid and ski fitness with some fun and games thrown in...all with the aim of developing your practical and theoretical skills to ensure that when you venture out onto the water you have the essential knowledge to have fun and stay safe.

FAQ’s

How long are the sessions and do I need to book in advance? Both the water and the land sessions are 1.5 hours long. When you join the Youth Academy you will automatically be enrolled in all the sessions for that Term.

Who can do it? All Academy sessions are open for anyone aged 8-16 years. We have a limited number of 10 members per session per term.

What shall I wear? Water Session - wetsuits need to be worn for your session.  Wetsuit hire from us is included in your membership if you don't have your own. We recommend that you bring plenty of warm clothing, even on warmer days it can get chilly out on the water and wear appropriate footwear for the boat. Other useful items to pack are a warm/sun hat and gloves, sunglasses and sun cream, and a water bottle. We provide buoyancy aids.  Please bring this to every session just in case we have the opportunity to get you on the water. Land Session - please wear comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear which you don't mind getting wet/dirty.  We may be in the classroom or on the foreshore depending on what activities we have planned.

Are there changing facilities and toilets? There are no changing facilities or toilets within the Ski School. Members can change on the Pontoon outside the School, so please bring towels/Dry Robes to enable this. We also cannot hold any personal belongings in the office for you during your session so please bear this in mind when deciding what to bring with you. The nearest public toilets are in the Rock Quarry Car Park at the end of Rock Road.

Do you have lockers? We do have a number of small lockers available to hire for £1.00. Ideal for storing a small bag and personal belongings in when you are on the water.

What about equipment? We have absolutely everything you will need to enjoy your time on the water with us including a huge range of thick C-Skins wetsuits and buoyancy aids, all included in the price of your session. Just bring yourself and some swimmers. However, it is best to wear your own wetsuit if you have one.

What about parking? There is parking at the Rock Quarry Car Park at the end of Rock Road, about 320 metres beyond Camel Ski School. It is open 24 hours and parking fees apply. Payment by card or RingGo, Location Code: 15661.

What happens if I need to cancel, or the weather is bad? Sessions are payable upfront and are non-refundable. If we have scheduled a water session and feel conditions are not suitable we will run a land session instead and re-schedule the water session for another time.
