Youth Academy

The Camel Ski Youth Academy is our membership club for aspiring young local waterskiers or wakeboarders who want to progress in the sport, but also have an interest in gaining general boating and water sports skills – maybe with an idea of becoming our next generation of Camel Ski coaches or one day working within the Marine industry.

Introduction to our Youth Academy

The Youth Academy is divided into three terms each year; Spring, Summer and Autumn. We run it on three weekday evenings – Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays- from 5.30pm to 7pm – in school term time.  The sessions will either be on the water or on the land, depending on the tides. We hope to get you out on the water as much as possible. During the water sessions you will have the opportunity to develop your ski/wakeboard skills. Our qualified instructors will use use the ‘Camel Ski Way’ Booklet to track your progress. We will also be scheduling a session on our Axis T220 boat towards the end of the term so members can have a go at wake surfing too.

With the land lessons we will cover such areas as skiing/boarding technique with video analysis, general boat skills, understanding tides, wind and weather, first aid and ski fitness with some fun and games thrown in…all with the aim of developing your practical and theoretical skills to ensure that when you venture out onto the water you have the essential knowledge to have fun and stay safe.

Please come to every session with kit for BOTH water and land sessions – as we may change plans at short notice depending on conditions.

Water Sessions – wetsuits need to be worn for your session.  Wetsuit hire from us is included if you don’t have your own. We recommend that you bring plenty of warm clothing, even on warmer days it can get chilly out on the water and wear appropriate footwear for the boat. Other useful items to pack are a warm/sun hat and gloves, sunglasses and sun cream, and a water bottle. If you have a Dry Robe or equivalent, please bring it too. We provide buoyancy aids.

Land Session – please wear comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear which you don’t mind getting wet/dirty.  We may be in the classroom or on the foreshore depending on what activities we have planned.

Are there changing facilities and toilets?

Most clients change on the Pontoon outside the School, so please bring towels/Dry Robes to enable this. However, we do have one shared changing room for those who prefer more formal facilities, but please be aware this may be full on busier days. Please note, we cannot hold any personal belongings in the office for you during your session so please bear this in mind when deciding what to bring with you.

Unfortunately we do not have any toilets for client use. The nearest public toilets are in the Rock Quarry Car Park at the end of Rock Road.

Do you have lockers?

We do however have a number of small lockers available for clients which are ideal for storing a small bag and personal belongings in when you are on the water.

What about parking?

There is parking at the Rock Quarry Car Park at the end of Rock Road, about 320 metres beyond Camel Ski School. It is open 24 hours and parking fees apply. Payment by card or RingGo – Location Code: 15661. Please allow plenty of time to park before your session, especially in the busy holiday seasons.

What happens if the weather is bad?

If we feel conditions are not suitable, we will run a land session instead and re-schedule the water session for another time.

What happens if I cannot make a session?

If you cannot make a session please give us as much notice as possible – ideally 24 hours.  Please note any sessions you miss cannot, unfortunately, be rescheduled.
